Tony Hughes confirms he will be, again, entering the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship for his second season in the UK’s premier saloon car category. Driving the Toyota Avensis Next Generation Touring Car that he debuted in the series in 2011, Tony made history by taking it to its first start.
Although Tony didn’t make the podium in his inaugural year in BTCC his Stockport (Bredbury) based business, Hughes Safety Showers, did, by being nominated for several awards in the last twelve months including EEF Future Manufacturing Awards - The Outstanding Export Award Category, MEN Business of the Year 2011, Insider Magazine - International Trade Awards, the Santander International Trade Awards - Regional Finalist, and HSBC Business Thinking award; which he pulled out of prior to the final.
Looking for that illusive top ten spot Tony reveals his excitement for competing amongst some of the best drivers around. “Being on the same grid as the likes of Matt Neal and Jason Plato hasn’t lost any of its appeal despite us having a ‘tough’ opening season”, remarked Hughes, “Quite the opposite, in fact, we’re hoping to come back much stronger and push on up the grid”.
Hughes confirmed he will again be run by, now neighbours, Stockport based Speedworks Motorsport. “We have one or two great additions and upgrades to include during 2012” added Tony, “I’m hopeful of getting plenty of time in the car on the run-up to the season opener at Brands Hatch (Kent), which will mean we can hit the ground running”.
On the addition of, 2011 Ginetta GT SuperCup Champion, Adam Morgan (Preston) to the Speedworks line-up Tony added, “Adam has a great talent, and is obviously very quick. I’m going to really enjoy racing alongside him and I think we can push the team forward much quicker with twice as much data on offer”.
